M4 MOTORWAY


 There some photos along the M4 MOTORWAY .

 


  

 

 

 

 

 

 This is going towards the centre of London and it is between Junction 2 and 3 .This photo was taken in Aug 2005.

The posts are 12M ABACUS metal type (single door) with PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass) . These are controlled by photocells which are on top of 5M posts which is next to control boxes which have got the contactors and fuses and these are on the side of the motorway.There is one near to this bridge .

All these posts and lanterns was installed in the 1990s.The old lights were 12M metal posts with THORN ALPHA 6 lanterns ( metal lantern ,200W SLI/H bulbs , less gear , photocells?) .In 1982 all the brackets and lanterns got changed with new ones .The new lanterns were PHILIPS MA60 lanterns ( 180W SOX bulbs , less gear ,RTE P42 2 part photocells) and the posts got painted white.

Along this bit of motorway on the slip roads the lights were 8M metal posts with THORN ALPHA 10 lanterns ( 90W SOX bulbs , less gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .All these have got changed in the 1990s with 12M posts with PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear) .

 

 

 

 


 

 

 This is going towards London and it is just past Junction 4B .This photo was taken in Aug 2012 .

The dark grey posts along the centre of the motorway with twin arm brackets are12M metal posts with side entry PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  . These are now group switched .

When the M25 was Linked to the M4 in the 80s , The lanterns were on these posts were PHILIPS MA 60 lanterns ( 180W SOX bulb , 2 part photocell , less gear ) .

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

 This is going towards London and it is at Junction 4B .This photo was taken in Aug 2012 .

The posts along the centre of the motorway with twin arm brackets are14M metal posts with side entry PHILIPS SGS 204 lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  . These are group switched .

Just after Junction 4B the lighting is The dark grey posts along the centre of the motorway with twin arm brackets are12M metal posts with side entry PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  .

On the slip roads 10M metal dark grey posts with URBIS ZX3 lanterns  ( integral gear , flat glass , whie top , SON-T bulb) . These are now group switched .

When the M25 was Linked to the M4 in the 80s , The lanterns were on these posts were PHILIPS MA 50 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulb , 2 part photocell , less gear ) .

Along this bit of motorway ,there is about 20 THORN ALPHA 8 lanterns left .

 On the slip roads were 10M metal posts with PHILIPS SRP251 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .In the 90s all the lanterns got changed to PHILIPS MA50 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .These lanterns have got changed in 2006? with PHILIPS IRIDUM  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  . Along these slips road are now new 12 M metals posts with WRTL ARC lanterns .

 On the slip roads were 10M metal posts with PHILIPS SRP251 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .In the 90s all the lanterns got changed to PHILIPS MA50 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .These lanterns have got changed in 2006? with PHILIPS IRIDUM  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  , In the year 2011? , Leaf Node units were installed on each lantern . This photo was taken in 1985-6.The posts along the centre of the motorway with twin arm brackets are 12M metal type with THORN ALPHA 8 lanterns (metal type, SON-T bulbs ,integral gear ,RTE P42 2 part photocells) and these were installed in 1983-4 and these replaced all the old 12M metal posts and side entry PHILIPS SRP 254 lanterns ( 180W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .

On the slip roads are original 10M metal posts with PHILIPS SRP251 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .

The12M metal type posts along the centre of the motorway has now got new twin arm brackets with URBIS ZX3 lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass) .These are controlled by photocells which are on top of 5M posts which is next to control boxes which have got the contactors and fuses and these are on the side of the motorway.There is one near to this bridge .

This slip road has got new 10M posts with URBIS ZX3 lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) . All these new lanterns was installed in the late 90s-early 2000s .

 


 

 

 

 

 

This is going towards London and it is at Junction 7.This photo was taken in July 2012 .

The12M metal type posts along the centre of the motorway has now got PHILIPS IRIDIUM  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass , Leaf Node unit ) . This Leaf Node unit gets its signal from a Branch Node unit by radio control . You can see the Branch Node unit which is in the bottom right of this photo . This Branch Node unit gets its information from a remote computer . I have seen 1 Branch Node unit and there might be some more ?

These slip roads has got new 12M ALC/NEDAL aluminum posts with WRTL LUMA lanterns . This has got LED bulbs in it . These were installed in June 2012 .  On these lantern are Nemanodes which gets its signal from a Branch Node unit by radio control . You can see the Branch Node unit which is in the bottom right of this photo .

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

WRTL LUMA lantern . This has got LED bulbs in it . This photo was taken in July 2012 . This is mounted at 12M . This is at M4 junction 7 near Taplow , Buckinghamshire .These were installed in June 2012 .  

You can see the Nemanode which gets its signal from a Branch Node unit by radio control .This is made by Harvard .

 

 


 

 

 

 

This is going towards WALES and it is just after Junction 7.This photo was taken in May 2005. This one is next to this bridge .This is a 5M post which is next to this control box which have got the contactors and fuses and these turn on and off the lights along this bit of motorway .This is on the side of the motorway.

On this post now (year 2011) has got a Branch Node unit which gets its information from a remote computer .

 

 


 

 

 This is going towards the London and it is  at Junction 8/9.This photo was taken in Aug 2012 .

 The12M metal posts along the centre of the motorway has got URBIS ZX3 lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass) .These are controlled by photocells which are on top of 5M posts which are next to control boxes which have got the contactors and fuses and these are on the side of the motorway. In 2011? these lights turn off at midnight .

 The lanterns before these URBIS ZX3 lanterns were THORN ALPHA 8 lanterns (metal type, SON-T bulbs ,integral gear ,RTE P42 2 part photocells) and these were changed around 2005 .

Around  1983-4 all the old posts along the centre of the motorway and lanterns got changed to 12M metal posts with THORN ALPHA 8 lanterns (metal type, SON-T bulbs ,integral gear ,RTE P42 2 part photocells) .

Before these new street lights which were installed in around  1983-4 , the old posts along the centre of the motorway with twin arm brackets were 12M metal posts with side entry PHILIPS SRP 254 lanterns ( 180W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) .

On the slip roads are original 10M metal posts with PHILIPS IRIDIUM  lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass)  and these were installed in 2006?  .

Before these PHILIPS IRIDIUM  lanterns , they were PHILIPS MA50 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) and these were installed in 90s .

Before these PHILIPS MA50 lanterns , they were PHILIPS SRP251 lanterns ( 135W SOX bulbs , integral gear ,Nema socket 1 part photocells) and these lanterns and posts were installed when the motorway was built .

Junction 11 has been changed in 2010-2012 and all the street lights has been changed with new posts and lanterns including the slip roads ones  The new lanterns are URBIS SAPPHIRE  lanterns . The old lanterns on the slip roads were GECZ8611/150T lanterns ( SON-T bulbs,integral gear,flat glass,RTE P42 2 part photocells) and these were installed in the 80s .

The posts are HIGH MAST TYPE and these are around 20-30M ? tall .The lanterns are CU PHOSCO P380 ( SONT bulbs , less gear ) and these have got boxes with the control gear for the bulbs on the top of the lanterns .
