This is a early version of the THORN BETA 5 lantern .This has got a old type Bowl in it.The bulb is a 35W SOX bulb with a Nema socket photocell.

This is a later version of the THORN BETA 5 lantern which was made in the 70s to the early 80s. The bulb is a 35W SOX bulb with a SELC 841 Nema Socket photocell. The side entry type of the lanterns the top of the lanterns has been changed in the early 70s to make it fit with the Nema Socket photocells .

With the top entry versions the bulbs were put in the other way round ( BC lamp holder socket near the path ) and the Nema Socket moved from the middle to the side of the lantern.

With this version the THORN changed the catch for the bowl to a black plastic one and the old type of catches were metal ones.

In 1989 THORN made it thinner and this is the last design change of this lantern that I know of. The bulb is a 35W SOX bulb with a Nema socket photocell.
