These lights are along DUNCOMBE PLACE in the city centre next to YORK MINSTER . The posts are REVO FESTIVAL cast iron posts and the lanterns are REVO FESTIVALS lanterns . These have got 4 5FT 80W Fluorescent tubes in them and these lights are now very rare now and there were 8 of them along this road. The colour of the posts and the lanterns was gold colour and in the 90s? these have got repainted black .There was 1 lantern missing from the post along this road in Sept 1993. In May 2008 these are now being replaced with new street lights. The new lamp posts are SAPA 8M posts with top entry lanterns (MH bulbs , miniature 1 part photocells , integral gear ) . These lanterns could be made by SUGG or HOLOPHANE ? On these lanterns have got red writing with white labels ,which say THIS SIDE OF LANTERN TO FACE ROAD. SUGG use the same label for their lanterns. This could be a SUGG PEMBROKE lantern. The HOLOPHANE ASHBOURNE lantern look like them same as a SUGG PEMBROKE lantern . My guess is these are SUGG PEMBROKE lanterns . These lanterns have been saved now by street light collectors in May 2008. Street light collectors found all the old 4 5FT 80W Fluorescent tubes and control gear has got replaced with 2 modern THORN 5FT Double 58W Fluorescent lights in each lantern with 2 RT 1 part miniature type photocells in the top of each lantern . All the old REVO cast iron posts were scraped. |
