SWANAGE , DORSET

 


This page is about some street lighting in SWANAGE in DORSET . SWANAGE is on the south coast of ENGLAND.

1979

Most of the posts are made out of concrete . These made by STANTON AND STAVELEY ( 8M posts for main roads ) and GEC ( 5M posts for side roads).

On the main roads the most of the lanterns are top entry GEC Z9465 lanterns with 90W SOX bulbs with some 2 part photocells and a lot of timeswitches . Along some of the roads in the town centre ( HIGH STREET ) , the lighting is by THORN AREA floods lights which is mounted on the walls of buldings .

On the side roads the most of the lanterns are top entry GEC Z9480/1 lanterns with 35W SOX bulbs with some2 part photocells and a lot of timeswitches . There are some side entry Z9538M lanterns ( integral gear , 55W SOX bulbs ) on some metal posts along a few roads.

Along THE PARADE , there were some side entry GEC Z9532 ( NIGHTWATCH , metal type) lanterns (35W SOX bulbs ) and some post top GEC Z5678 lanterns (35W SOX bulbs ) .

 1980-1986

1980 = There are some new lighting along KINGS ROAD WEST. The posts were new type 8 M BRITISH STEEL metal posts with the new type of side entry brackets.The new lanterns were side entry PHILIPS MA30 lanterns ( less gear) , semi cut of bowls , SON bulbs and with 2 part RTE P42 photocells . The posts were painted light grey.

Early 80s along the sides roads , the council put in new metal brackets on the old concrete posts with new side entry Z9538M ( NIGHTWATCH ) lanterns ( integral gear , 55W SOX bulbs with 2 part photocells , plastic type) and along the main roads , the council put in new metal brackets on the old concrete posts with new side entry lanterns . The new lanterns were GEC Z9464 lanterns with 90W SOXbulbs with Nema socket photocells . These lanterns are the same as for the old lanterns except for the new lanterns are side entry.

Along the the sea front ( SHORE ROAD ) the council put in new post top GEC ZD10547 lanterns (2 or 3 SON bulbs and 2 part photocells ) on the old 8M concrete posts . The old lanterns were top entry GEC Z9465 lanterns . Along part of the HIGH STREET most the old concrete posts been changed as well as the old lanterns . The posts were 8 M BRITISH STEEL metal posts with post top GEC ZD10547 lanterns ( 2 or 3 SON bulbs and 2 part photocells ) and the posts were painted light grey.

After some years most of the side roads 5M concrete posts were changed to the new 5M hockey stick BRITISH STEEL metal posts . The council reused all the side entry Z9538M ( NIGHTWATCH ) lanterns that was on the old 5M concrete posts and put them on the new metal posts . The new posts were painted light grey .

Along the main roads most of the old 8M concrete posts were changed to the 8 M BRITISH STEEL metal posts with side entry brackets . The council reused all the side entry GEC Z9464 lanterns that was on the old 8M concrete posts and the council put them on the new metal posts . The new posts were painted light grey.

1990 - 1992

Along THE PARADE , all the street lighting was changed to new 5M heritage posts with heritage lanterns (SON-T bulbs ).

 1997- 1998

All the lanterns and most of the posts have been changed along these roads ( THE PARADE , HIGH STREET , SHORE ROAD and STATION ROAD ) . All the new posts are heritage posts with double arm top entry brackets and these post range from 5M TO 10M . Along STATION ROAD all the brackets are single type .

All the posts are painted dark blue . On these posts are top entry URBIS VICTORIAN SATURN globe lanterns with SON-T bulbs . On the top of each post there is a Nema socket photocell .

 AUG 2003

The council has started using the PHILIPS MA90 lantern ( 90W SOX bulbs , integral gear , Nema socket photocells ) now .


 

 

This is along the HIGH STREET ( SEA FRONT ) and this was taken in Year 1985 .

Street lights are 8 M BRITISH STEEL metal posts with post top GEC ZD10547 lanterns (SON bulbs , 2 part RTE P42 photocells ) .

The old Street lights were before these were 8M STANTON AND STAVELEY concrete  posts with top entry GEC Z9465 lanterns ( 90W SOX bulbs , 2 part RTE P42 photocells ) and these got changed in the early 80s .

8M heritage URBIS CHATSWORTH posts with double arm top entry brackets with URBIS VICTORIAN SATURN globe lanterns (SON-T bulbs , integral gear) and the Nema socket photocell is on the top of the 8M post .

The old Street lights before these were were 8M STANTON AND STAVELEY concrete  posts with post top GEC ZD10547 lanterns (SON bulbs , 2 part RTE P42 photocells ) .

 This is along VICTORIA AVENUE and this was taken in Year 2000 .

The Street lights are 8M STANTON AND STAVELEY concrete  posts new metal brackets side entry GEC Z9464 lantern ( 90W SOX bulb , Nema socket photocell ) . These new metal brackets and these side entry GEC Z9464 lanterns were installed in the early 80s . The old brackets were made of concrete and the lanterns were top entry GEC Z9465 lanterns ( 90W SOX bulbs ) .
