On this post there was a bracket with a THORN ALPHA 8 lantern (SONT BULB , NEMA socket photocell ) and it has been changed with a new PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION lantern .

Along this road there were a lot of post top THORN GAMMA 2 LANTERNS ( 2ft Fluorescent Tubes ) on these posts.

Along this road the lights were GEC Z8430CM lanterns and in the late 80s these got changed to THORN ALPHA 8 lanterns (SONT BULBS , NEMA socket photocells ).
In the carpark new lights been put in the late 90s,these are 8M posts with PHILIPS TRAFFIC VISION lanterns (SON-T BULBS , FLAT GLASS BOWLS) .I know of only 3 THORN GAMMA 2 lanterns in BOURNEMOUTH and these are now rare.
UPDATED JUNE 2002 - This THORN GAMMA 2 lantern is still here.
UPDATED July 2008 - This has now been replaced with a WRTL 2015 lantern ( SON-T bulb,integral gear, miniature photocell ) .

When the old swan neck bracket and lantern was removed , the council did put in a new straight bit of post which the new lantern were fitted to all so to extend the mounting height of the old post.
This post has got the old colour green .

The lanterns that were on these posts were the GEC Z5580/1/2B lanterns with MBF bulbs and on these posts the gear boxes are big because of the control gear.

In the early 80s the lantern been changed to a CU PHOSCO P170 CHINE lantern..

The council installed this light in the early 80s and there is about 5 of them along this path.
This path goes from DURLEY GARDENS ( WEST CLIFF PROMENADE ) to WEST PROMENADE.

This post and lantern is not here any more and there were about 8 of these . All these were replaced in around 1985-6 with a modern electric lampposts with a post top CU PHOSCO P170 CHINE lanterns . The colour of this post was 2 different colour greens . The base of the post and the lantern was painted dark green with rest of it painted light green .

This lantern shine the light upwards , then the reflector shine the lights downwards towards the ground . This has now gone.
July 2015- I noticed the council has replaced the old lighting which is in Lower Central Gardens with new 8 metres cast iron lamp posts with post top heritage Urbis Albany Led lanterns ( Led bulbs ,miniature photocell ) and these are painted grey. The new 8 metre cast iron lamp posts is a copy of the old 8 metre cast iron lamp posts that is in Lower Central Gardens.
