PHILIPS MI80 lantern

 

	This is a PHILIPS MI80  lantern .This has got integtral gear in it for a 55W SOX bulb .This has got a NEMA socket in it with a SELC 841 photocell . I bought this lantern in 2002. I bought this from a place near MINEHEAD in SOMERSET .I bought this lantern with out a photocell and bulb.
	This is inside of the PHILIPS MI80  lantern .This has got a 35W SOX bulb in it.
	This is inside of the PHILIPS MI80  lantern .I have cleaned it  and repaired it in the summer 2004 . This had a faulty igniter in it and I replaced it and it now works .When I bought this lantern the control gear was bypassed .

 

Control gear	Code Number	Bulb size	ratings
Ballast	PHILIPS BSX355L82	55w SOX	22.2 ohms	This limit the current to the bulb.
Ignitor	PHILIPS SX72		2.72kohms	This produce the high voltage to start the bulb.
Capacitor			6.5uf	This corrects the Power Factor (PF).

 

Fault list

If when a ignitor goes wrong ,nothing happens and the bulb don't light up. To make it work ,you need to replace the ignitor.

If when a Capacitor goes wrong it will effects the PF of the circuit which effects the current of the circuit . It will run at more current or less current then normal.

If when a Ballast goes wrong ,nothing happens and the bulb don't light up.
